RES 351 Week 1 complete
DQ 1.
You are a grocery store manager. Suppose your customers have a choice of two
grocery stores in your neighborhood. Because most customers hate waiting, they
will choose the one store for which there is generally a shorter wait in the
checkout line. How would you gather information to determine whether your
competitor store or your store has a faster checkout line? Would it be
sufficient to visit each store once and time how long you had to wait in line?
What is the underlying business problem here? Explain.
DQ 2.
Based on an analysis of the last six months’ sales, your boss notices that
sales of
beef products are declining in your chain’s restaurants. As beef
entrée sales decline, so do profits. Fearing beef sales have declined due to
several newspaper stories reporting Escolar contamination discovered at area
grocery stores, he suggests a survey of area restaurants to see if the situation
is pervasive.
(a)
What do you think of this research suggestion?
(b) How, if at all, could you improve on
your boss’s formulation of the research question?
In your response support your analysis with
your week 1 course text readings. Consider why sales of beef entrees are
declining? Could there be other factors causing this decline? Use the management research question
hierarchy as your starting point for this analysis.
Write
a 300-word summary of the business research process by describing the business research process from
your experience in the workplace or in a peer-reviewed article you find through
the University Library. Note that the word count does not include the title
page and References.
Support your
analysis by citing the course text material and including your course text in
your references.
Format
your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
